Prostate Cancer Research
Developing empathetic information and support for patients
The charity wanted to deepen its understanding of patient experiences at every stage of the patient journey, and to develop an online information service (Infopool) to empower people living with prostate cancer to make better-informed decisions about their treatment.
Versiti recruited and engaged 44 people living with prostate cancer in a two-week online research community designed to explore their experiences during the period of initial diagnosis when critical treatment decisions are made and when patients learn to live with the impacts of their cancer and treatment. We also tested a beta version of Infopool.
The insights helped changed the culture of the organisation, increasing empathy, knowledge and confidence in engaging with people living with prostate cancer.
The work suggested patient-led improvements that helped secure £425,000 in Big Lottery funding to finalise the development of Infopool and take it to market.
